The Aqua Lily Pad – Is it THE best floating water mat?

The Aqua Lily pad is one of the famous brands under the newest water fun – a floating water mat. It is simple to get onto the pad and into or out of the water compared to using a platoon or a boat. Anyone can do it.

It makes a great platform for games of chicken, cartwheeling into the water and all other kind of games. And furthermore it is a place to just relax and chill.

Aqua lily

Aqua lily products itself has a few different pads: the Aqua Lily pad, the Maui mat and the BullFrog pad. Above is a comparison between those mats and how well they do versus the main other brands. Is the Aqua lily pad the best floating water mat? Let’s see if it stand up to its name!

Aqua lily pad vs Bullfrog Pad – the differences

Beware: Those two pads are for a whole different user group!

The Aqua Lily Pads

Those pads have 2 layers. They have a special flexcore which makes them strong but flexible. This means that the weight is less then the bullfrog and the pad is more flexible so easier to roll up. So if you plan to take the pad with you on a boat and roll it up a lot this one is ideal. Theoretically this mat can be rolled by one person. Rather much simpler by two though.

The BullFrog pads

Those pads have 3 layers. It was designed as a commercial pad for clubs, hotels and commercial swimming pools. They are more durable and more sturdy. It stands rough usage better, like putting lounge chairs on the pad. As they have more layers they have more buoyancy, and as a result adults can walk more easy on it. But as it is more sturdy it is also more heavy. This means that rolling it up to take with you on a boat trip is harder to do. You certainly need two people to do this. And doing so on the middle of a lake is consequently a challenge. This probably makes the bull frog pad better suitable for along the shore or of a dock.

Other Mats

But there are a lot of pads available and none of them are inexpensive, so which floating water pad makes a good investment? It needs to have a good construction, hold a lot of people and for good transport it needs to be lightweight and roll and unroll easily.

Because there are a lot of people wondering about this we are going to make a comparison list with the similarities and the contrast between the next mats:

  • Aqua lily pad vs Maui mat
  • Aqua lily pad vs floating oasis
  • Aqua lily pad vs float
  • Aqua lily pad vs water mat
  • Paradise pad vs aqua lily pad
  • Aqua lily pad vs Rubber Dockie

Commercial floating mats:

The Bull Frog pad by Aqua Lily Products and the Paradise Pad.
The iFloats Towable Foam Mat iSki System claims to be towable, and is US made. As none of the others are tow able this therefore says something about the quality.

Aqua lily pad for sale

Let’s compare the prices of the Aqua Lily for sale in the different shops first so that is out of our way.

Aqua lily pad Costco

First we checked the price on Costco which is about $ 379,-

Aqua lily pad Craigslist

Another place to check is Craigslist. Though I understand the price is quite high for a toy I honestly think it is better AND simpler to buy a budget version, mainly because they are not often sold on Craigslist and because the the sun seems to make the quality of an older mat less. A good budget floating water mat can be found in the comparison table below.

Aqua lily pad amazon

Finally we checked the price on Amazon. In contrast to the other places the price for this pad on amazon is very high compared with all other places but the shipping is often free. There are comparable floating water pads though for way less money. (depends on your location)

Specials

The specials consists of 2 pieces of the high quality foam of which the normal lily pad is made. It are the leftover parts of the ends which are not large enough to make a full lily pad in itself but are great for kids to play with. The colors vary. The size of those two are 42″ by 72″ and they have of course the same depth as the large pad, 1 3/8″

Other lily pad items are:

  • Storage Bag
  • Floating Straps plus Protectors – You can choose your desired Floating Strap Length:
    – the Aqua Lily Straps of 90″ long, specially made for the Aqualily Pads (2-layer)
    – the Bullfrog Straps of 110″ long, specially made for the Bullfrog Pads (3-layer)
  • Tether Kit Production.

Problems / FAQ:

For when you want to add or need to replace a Tether Kit on your Pad here is the solution: You simply drill a small hole in the pad and put in one of the tether kits. Therefore there are foam washers included which are needed for the 1 3/8″ thick AQUA lily pads. Those are not needed for the Bullfrog lily pads as these are thicker (3-layers).
